FAQ

Confidentiality

Crafter Health has a strict Privacy Policy – no information will be disclosed to a third party without written patient authorisation. All consultation and medical record information is held in strict confidence.

For Privacy information regarding your rights and access to your Health Information, visit the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, www.oaic.gov.au

Patient records

For personal health information to be transferred to another Medical Practitioner, we need written authority by the patient. Transfer of notes incurs a cost of $30.00 or $25.00 concession to cover the costs of administration time and registered post.

Patients in distress

On occasion, due to physical or emotional distress, you may feel the need for privacy prior to your appointment. Please ask our reception staff if there is a private room available and your request will be accommodated where possible.

Parking

Parking is available at Crafter Health for all patients.

Booking reminders

The Clinic sends SMS reminders for all appointments. When you have made a booking in advance, you will receive a text message on your mobile 24hrs before your appointment time. This gives you the opportunity to confirm, cancel or rebook your appointment if you are unable to attend.

If you do not wish to receive messages for booking reminders, you can opt out on your phone, give us a call, or let one of our receptionists know when you attend for your appointment.

Health reminders

Crafter Health provides health reminders by SMS. This secure message will advise you when you are due to book a follow-up appointment for things like immunisations, blood tests and skin checks. Doctors will add their patients to the reminder system as necessary.

Test results

If your doctor has referred you for a test, the doctor, nurse or receptionist will contact you if the result requires any follow up. You will not be contacted if the result is normal but you can view them in your My Health Record, accessible through myGov. You may contact Crafter Health for results between 10am and 3pm if required.

Communication: telephone/electronic

Doctors in the practice may be contacted during normal surgery hours. If the doctor is with a patient, a message will be taken and they will return your call when they are able. In an emergency your call will always be directed to a doctor or practice nurse. There is no electronic communication available to the Practice.

Crafter Health practice provides for the communication needs of patients who are not proficient in the primary language of our clinical team or for those who have a communication impairment.

A list of contact details for interpreters and other communication services including the Translating and Interpreter Service is available for you. If you require any of these services, please ask our friendly reception team or visit the website of the Translating and Interpreting Service, or Auslan Services.

Disabled access

Crafter Health is easily accessed by people using a mobility aid (wheelchairs, walkers etc). Should you have any special needs please discuss them with reception staff or your doctor.

Referrals

It is a requirement of the Medicare Benefits Schedule that an assessment of the patient by the referring doctor takes place prior to a specialist referral being provided. Retrospective referrals can only be written if the referral has previously been discussed with the Doctor. Professional services provided with no patient contact will attract a fee. Patients are advised that gap payments may apply on specialist, x-ray and pathology services. Information regarding this may be sought from the relevant specialist.

Crafter Health regularly engages with local health services, such as specialists, allied health and hospitals. If required, your GP will provide sufficient information (referral letter) to plan and facilitate optimal patient care.

Please be aware that Private Hospital Emergency Departments charge a facility fee. Ambulance transport fees are the responsibility of the patient.

Prescriptions

In the interests of best health care, repeat prescriptions will generally not be issued unless patient/doctor contact is made. All patients are encouraged to request repeat prescriptions (for long term use of specific medication) at the time of their consultation, thereby avoiding the need for an additional consultation. Prescriptions may also be requested on HotDoc. A professional service provided with no patient contact will attract a fee.
